A POLICEMAN died after being hit by a four-wheel-drive vehicle driven by a suspected drunk driver while he was manning a roadblock at the Kajang South toll plaza at the Kajang-Seremban Highway (LEKAS) early today.

In the 2.11am incident, Safwan Muhammad Ismail, 31, from the Kajang district police headquarters died at the scene from serious injuries to the body and head after a Toyota Hilux rammed into him.

The Hilux driver was driving from Kajang towards the toll plaza, said Kajang district police chief Mohd Zaid Hassan.

“Upon reaching the roadblock, the Hilux driver, suspected to be driving under the influence of alcohol, failed to control the vehicle and hit a policeman before crashing into a car parked on the road shoulder,” he said in a statement today.

Zaid said a police report was lodged by the supervisor of the roadblock while Hilux driver who sustained injuries was detained for further investigation.

Safwan’s body is expected to be taken to his hometown in Ulu Kinta, Perak, for burial. – Bernama, May 3, 2020.
