INTERNET users must take greater care to protect their personal data instead of relying solely on the government to put into place security measures, said Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia Jailani Johari.
Simple steps such as changing one’s password every three months and refraining from sharing personal information on the internet or social media went a long way in preventing one’s data from being traded in the dark web, said Jailani.
“It’s not just acts that can help in terms of enforcement and all that; what’s more important is the aspect of self control.
“This is where I want to emphasise that as users, we must ensure that we don’t share any kind of personal information on websites or social media,” he said today in Parliament.
Despite Malaysia being the 23rd most cyber-attacked country in the world, cybersecurity experts say local organisations and companies are not investing enough in tech security.
Last month, online forum lowyat.net published an article on a massive data breach involving 46.2 million mobile phone subscribers.
Police say the breach was traced to an IP address in Oman. – November 20, 2017.
