Perlis replaces Friday prayers with Zohor prayers at home

RAJA of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail has decreed that Friday prayers in the state today be replaced with Zohor prayers at home.

Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is also president of the state Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council, said the state ruler issued the decree following advice from the Health Ministry on Covid-19, as well as “irshad” (religious guidance) from the Perlis Fatwa Committee.

“Keeping with the decree by the Raja of Perlis, Friday prayers across the state today will be replaced with Zohor prayers at home,” said Tuanku Syed Faizuddin in a statement issued by the council.

He said the ministry has advised that large-scale gatherings, including for religious purposes, be avoided to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

He called on mosques in the state to avoid conducting big public events for the time being.

He also advised Muslims to take precautionary measures to stem the disease’s spread. – Bernama, March 13, 2020.
