FRESH polls would be the appropriate course to take following objections to the appointment of Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister, PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin said today.

Reports quoted him saying in Penang that voters should decide since there is a dispute over the number of MPs in favour of Muhyiddin.

“We hope to give this back to the people to decide in order to resolve any further political turmoil,” he said, according to the Malay Mail.

Hashim said he will raise the matter at a meeting at PAS headquarters later today.

Muhyiddin took the oath of office before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong this morning, ending a week of political manoeuvring by Bersatu, Umno, PAS and ex-PKR MPs led by Mohamed Azmin Ali to form a new government.

The king yesterday said Muhyiddin commanded the most support among parliament’s 222 MPs.

But this was disputed by Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Pakatan Harapan, who said they have the numbers after six MPs from Muhyiddin’s party, Bersatu switched allegiance.

PH has urged for the next Dewan Rakyat sitting scheduled for March 9 to proceed so that they can call for a vote of confidence in Muhyiddin. – March 1, 2020.
