THE opposition wants parliament to be dissolved and fresh polls held after Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) crushing loss in the Tg Piai by-election, said Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“This is the stand of all the opposition lawmakers. To us, what happened in Tanjung Piai was a message and that message should be clearly understood,” he told reporters in the parliament lobby today.

The Barisan Nasional chairman said the opposition would not push for a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“We believe in democracy and due process, and the belief has to be translated through compliance with the constitution and the Election Commission Act.”

Zahid said he agreed with opposition leader Ismail Sabri Yaakob that fresh polls were in order following PH’s massive defeat in Tg Piai.

Yesterday Ismail called for the dissolution of parliament and for a snap election to be held as the people have lost confidence in the government.

Ismail said the by-election was a referendum on the ruling pact, and the results showed that the people had rejected PH.

“If the government is truly sensitive to the people’s voice, it has no choice but to dissolve parliament.

“Let the people decide the country’s future,” he said in a Facebook post.

He said the feelings of Tg Piai voters were shared by Malaysians nationwide, and that they had already rejected PH in the three previous by-elections in Cameron Highlands, Semenyih and Rantau.

“The message is clear. The people no longer believe in PH’s ability to lead the country.”

Zahid today said BN was heartened by Saturday’s outcome showing that voters had voted for the opposition despite knowing that it did not have access to government funding. – November 18, 2019.

  • Instead of Snap Elections we should ask the Court to make Snap Sentencing, this is the sentiment of the people of Malaysia.

  • Looks like TDM has his allies. Has it not closed anyone's mind that they sit in the Opposition benches? So who exactly is he shooting goals for? Certainly not for PH, as TDM delivered PH a 15,000 vote loss in Tanjung Piai.

  • Wrong dream, my friend. Its not that the rakyat wanted to support BN, rather they are so unhappy with PH that they want to send a strong message to PH, especially the PM. Stop protecting Nylas, regconize UEC, plan and execute a reduced toll rate over time, formulate a highly incentivised PTPTN repayment, execute all reforms promised in GE14, Drop petrol price to 1.80 in 2020, 1.70 in 2021,1.60 in 2022 and 1.50 in 2023, no need any other forms of petrol subsidy.

  • Dream on, better wake-up and focus in your court case. You may not be in Parliament soon.
