A MISSION school in Penang accused of banning Muslim prayers and reciting Christian prayers during a function won’t make any comment until police investigation is completed, said Kee Phaik Cheen.
The Methodist Girls’ School board of governors’ chairman said the truth would set the school free.
“I hope you understand that there is an investigation going on and after it is complete, we will reveal to you the facts. We do not want to pre-empt the investigation.
“Once the investigation is over, the truth will set us free,” she was quoted as saying by news portal Free Malaysia Today.
Earlier today, police said they are investigating the mission school for allegedly reciting a Christian prayer at a public event.
Bukit Aman CID prosecution and legal division principal assistant director senior assistant commissioner Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said several people present during the event last Friday have lodged a report
“Based on the report, they claimed that Muslim prayers were prohibited and instead, Christian prayers were recited,” he said during a press conference in Bukit Aman today.
Yesterday, the Education Ministry said it is mulling disciplinary action against SK Methodist for reciting a Christian prayer at a public event.
Director-general of education Dr Amin Senin said the school flouted rules set out in a 2016 circular on protocol.
A police report was lodged on Saturday by a Muslim group alleging the school of trying to proselytise to Muslims.
The Malaysian Insight reported on Friday that a political activist had lodged a police report against the school’s administration over the incident, which took place during an awards ceremony at 8.30am. – September 30, 2019.
