ANWAR Ibrahim’s family want the opposition politician to be taken to the hospital for a check-up and observation after yesterday’s road accident .

Anwar’s eldest daughter, Nurul Izzah Anwar said her father had required an injection of painkillers after the incident.

“The family want Anwar to be taken to hospital to be given the necessary checks,” said Nurul Izzah, who is Lembah Pantai MP, told The Malaysian Insight.

“We appeal to the kindness of the Prisons Department, Home Ministry, and Putrajaya to consider our request.”

Yesterday about 12.30pm, a car collided with the vehicle carrying Anwar back to the Sungai Buloh prison.

Health Ministry deputy director Dr Jeyaindran Sinnathurai said Anwar was not injured in the incident, but would be given a check up.

Anwar’s lawyer, R.Sivarasa lawyer said the accident occurred near the traffic lights at Saujana Utama, while the convoy was bringing Anwar back to the prison from Hospital Kuala Lumpur, where he had been warded for fluctuating blood pressure.

“The prison officer driving the vehicle carrying Anwar had to suddenly step on the brakes to avoid a vehicle coming from the opposite direction, causing the escort vehicle behind to crash into the vehicle in front. The vehicle with Anwar inside was badly damaged in the rear, but Anwar thankfully did not sustain any serious injury,” said Sivarasa in a statement.

He said Anwar was given a painkiller shot by the prison doctor.

“Dr Jeyaindran is scheduled to meet him at 5pm today and he will decide whether Anwar needs to go to the hospital for treatment.” – September 23, 2017.
