THE families of missing activist Amri Che Mat and pastor Raymond Koh have given the authorities six months to act on an inquiry’s findings that it was Special Branch which abducted the two men.

Amri’s wife, Norhayati Mohd Ariffin, and Koh’s wife, Susanna Liew, said they will then file a civil suit if nothing is done.

They not only want the authorities, including the attorney-general to act by the half-year deadline, but also meet Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Home Affairs Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on the matter.

They also want updates from Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun on the case.

“If there is nothing done, then it will force us to take a civil suit against the authorities,” the two women told reporters after the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) released its conclusion into a year-long inquiry into the missing men today.

The Suhakam inquiry concluded that both Koh and Amri were victims of enforced disappearance and that state agents were involved. The panel agreed unanimously on the finding.

The wives also called for a special task force to be set up to probe into the cases.

Both men disappeared more than three years ago in separate cases. The manner in which they were taken has been described by witnesses as something only trained police or commando personnel could have done.

“Of course we want our husbands back. We would like to see the perpetrators, the ones who have been responsible for this forced disappearance to be brought to the book and we want to see justice and truth being revealed.”

The families are seeking closure.

As it stands today, Liew said the families are still in the dark over what had happened to their loved ones and the motive behind their abduction. – April 3, 2019.
