'Ringgit-to-ringgit' reward awaits Sabah civil servants who report graft

CIVIL servants who report graft to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will receive a reward in the form of a cash incentive of the same value of the bribes involved, said Sabah MACC director Sazali Salbi.

He said the “ringgit-to-ringgit” incentive would be given on the condition that the case was investigated and the accused charged and convicted.

“Last year, only two civil servants – an Immigration staff member and a police officer – received rewards for reporting corruption cases in the state.

“A police officer may receive a RM25,000 reward (for reporting a case this year), which will be presented next year.

“The lowest reward sum is RM500 for each case involving bribes of less than RM500, but for every case involving bribes of RM500 and above, the reward will be paid according to the value of the bribes,” he said during a briefing with 105 Tawau branch staff of the National Registration Department (NRD), in conjunction with the NRD Corruption-Free Pledge-taking ceremony today.

Present was Sabah NRD director Ismail Ahmad. – Bernama, September 9, 2017.
