BARISAN Nasional’s Zakaria Hanafi is the new Semenyih assemblyman, announced the Election Commission tonight.

The Hulu Langat Umno chief was declared the winner of today’s by-election by returning officer Mohd Sayuthi Bakar at 9.25pm, at the EC’s vote-tallying centre at Kajang Municipal Council’s Seri Cempaka Hall.

At the final tally, Zakaria polled 19,780 votes to the 17,866 received by Pakatan Harapan’s Muhammad Aiman Zainali.

Parti Sosialis Malaysia’s Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul got 847 votes, while independent Kuan Chee Heng received 725. – March 2, 2019.
