SOME 130 former employees of the disbanded Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) have sought the help of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohammad to get them new jobs.

These employees were among 967 employees retrenched after the Pakatan Harapan government came into power. They were, however, assured of letters of appointment by December 15, which did not come.

On June 6, the commission was renamed the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) and placed under the Ministry of Transport. SPAD was previously under the Prime Minister’s Department.

In a memorandum sighted by The Malaysian Insight to Dr Mahathir, the employees pleaded with him to solve their woes.

They said Transport Minister Anthony Loke promised at a meeting in September that they will receive their letters by December 15.

A human resources executive, who wanted to be known as Adli, said the SPAD management has yet to reveal anything about their new jobs.

“We have been asking our heads of department what is going on but they are keeping mum. We need to know what is happening as this involves our future,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

Adli, who has been working with SPAD since 2015, said some staffers were picked while others were not.

Adli said some who joined SPAD last year got new placements.

“While those who have been working for more than seven years in the agency were left out. When we asked the management about this, they told us to hold on,” he said.

In the memorandum, the staff urged the ministry to keep its promise to provide jobs to the 937 permanent and contract workers.

They were supposed to get a two-year contract, according to their current positions. They also want compensation included in the agreement.

Another staff member, working in the legal department since 2013, said it was frustrating that they have not been informed of any decision.

“It’s already year-end and we haven’t got any conformation on our job status.

“We are worried about our future,” she said.

The mother of two children and a toddler said the ministry must keep its promise.

“We need to be informed earlier so we can make preparations for the new school year. The management is being unfair, they should inform us.” – December 19, 2018.

  • Still the same old mentality that government must provide jobs for them. You have hands and legs and with a little bit of brains you can get jobs in the private sector. Stop relying on the government

  • Anthony Loke can you please ask the spad officer to return the car they seized but which the court has given an order to return to the owner. One officer from SPAD called a month back to say we can take the car but must pay RM300.00 and when we told him that the court did not order any payment for the release, he said the court order has nothing to do with him and until now we can't get back the car.
