MEDIA Prima Bhd will meet with the Sistem Televisyen Malaysia Berhad (TV3) Employees Union (KSKSTMB) and the TV3 Executive Union (KESTMB) tomorrow to discuss its labour crisis, said Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran.
He said the meeting was announced by KSKSTMB president Khairuzzaman Mohammad when submitting a memorandum to the ministry to protest Media Prima’s move to retrench workers.
Kulasegaran said the ministry would listen to the matter tomorrow, and that it was still too early to make any assumptions.
“We will listen first because we don’t have anything in writing. We will see how they want to resolve the matter.
“If it is not resolved, the matter will be referred to the ministry for a decision on whether it should be referred to court,” he said after receiving the memorandum at the Parliament lobby today.
The unions concerned are protesting the retrenchment of 190 technical workers, as well as the compulsory mutual separation scheme involving 43 employees of the news and management services department.
The unions also called for the intervention of the ministry to strike out Media Prima’s retrenchment, which they said was not conducted according to the law.
Among the accusations mentioned in the memorandum was that Media Prima’s management did not discuss the matter with the unions before announcing the retrenchment exercise. – Bernama, November 26, 2018.
