THE International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) is a ploy by the freemasons to destroy religion, race and Malaysia, said Abdul Hadi Awang.
The PAS president called on God-fearing Malaysians to unite and oppose the anti-discrimination treaty and said its concept is neither religious nor humane.
The Marang MP said Malaysians should not be influenced by the West, which he claimed had abandoned religion.
There are enough provisions in the federal constitution to prevent discrimination towards non-Muslims in the country which are based on the concept of fairness and equality, he said.
“It is more than sufficient to meet the needs of a multiracial community and these provisions are far better than those offered by the ICERD,” he said, without highlighting which provisions provided for this.
Hadi latest statement comes on the heels of his remarks last Monday that it was compulsory for Muslims to oppose Putrajaya’s efforts to ratify ICERD.
The PAS president said ratification of ICERD would place Islam on the “same level” as other religions in the country.
“Unfortunately, there are Muslims who don’t understand or pretend not to understand… they want to fight for equality by making Islam the same as other religions.
“We must oppose (ICERD) because it is compulsory for Muslims to say that Islam is correct. We can give rights to other religions but to say that other religions are the same as Islam is unacceptable.
“This is a line we cannot cross,” he was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times during a ceramah at Abidin Mosque on Monday night in Kuala Terengganu.
PAS and Umno, the country’s two biggest Malay political parties, will hold a rally to protest against Malaysia’s plan to ratify ICERD in the capital on December 8.
Both parties held a joint rally on Saturday in Pasir Salak to protest against the proposed ratification of ICERD. – November 22, 2018
