CALLING for the Johor election in the midst of a Covid-19 Omicron wave and right after the festive season is a “calculated move” by Umno for their own political gain, said Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) president accused Umno of wanting a low voter turnout to ensure Barisan Nasional’s (BN) win.

In the Malacca polls in November, BN won 21 out of 28 seats contested, winning back the state it lost in the 2018 general election. The election that was held under strict Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) saw voter turnout of 65.8%, compared to the 84.52% turnout at the 14th general election in 2018. – February 9, 2022.
