BR1M will be reduced before it is discontinued, says Dr Mahathir

IT will not be a popular decision among the 7.2 million recipients as Putrajaya slowly reduces the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) payouts before weaning it out altogether, said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Blaming the Najib administration for “spoiling” the people, Dr Mahathir said the people should stop depending on the government and believing that they are entitled to money without doing any work.

  • I agree. I think a more sustainable social security mechanism is more beneficial. BR1M does not really serve its purpose as I think monthly payments to those who really need it is more sustainable.

  • The same goes for RM100 given to each school pupil every year. Many parents didn't want the money but were forced to take it by the schools under threat of being 'blacklisted' by the government. Stop that payment too and it'll save millions.
