THE Attorney-General’s Chambers has yet to receive investigation papers relating to the 1Malaysian Development Bhd scandal.
Attorney-General Tommy Thomas said prosecutors have only received an IP relating to SRC International Sdn Bhd, a former subsidiary of 1MDB.
Former prime minister Najib Razak has been slapped with a total of seven charges, all linked to SRC International.
“None of the 1MDB papers has arrived. The moment they arrive, I will issue a statement so that the world knows,” Thomas told a special private session at the International Malaysia Law Conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
He said he will be personally involved should any 1MDB case go to court.
Thomas said there is division of power between investigating and prosecuting agencies.
The police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission are investigating allegations of wrongdoing at 1MDB.
“Only when they complete their investigations and hand in their IPs will our functions begin. And until those papers are given to us, we really have no power.
“I am very reluctant to contact these agencies, to disturb them and say, why are you not completing the investigation,” he said.
Thomas said the government has hired “reputable” solicitors in Singapore who will be applying by next month to claim assets frozen by the island republic.
He said the government is contemplating similar actions in the UK, Switzerland and the US, where assets have also been confiscated.
“We have to identify world-class barristers… and identify lawyers in the US, who have the ear of the judges and must be able to co-operate with the attorney-generals.” – August 14, 2018.
