Daughter of former DPM Dr Ismail dies at 64

THE second child of Malaysia’s second deputy prime minister, Zailah Dr Ismail, died of cancer early today, reports said. She was 64.

Bernama quoted her older brother, Tawfik, as saying that Zailah died at 4.30am in Damansara Specialist Hospital. He said she would be buried at Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery today.

Her body was brought to the At-Taqwa Mosque Taman Tun Dr Ismail in Kuala Lumpur, where funeral prayers were performed after Friday prayers. Joining the congregation was Prime Minister Najib Razak.

The Star reports that Zailah was a member of the G25 group of prominent Malays. She was a former public affairs adviser to the Bank Negara governor, a non-independent and non-executive director of UEM Edgenta Berhad and a trustee of Yayasan Amir.

Yayasan Amir is an organisation that aims to improve public schools by promoting private-public partnerships.

Tawfiq said Zailah had four children: Tariq Ismail Mustafa, 38, Yassif Nagim Mustafa, 36, Kamariah Shakirin Mustafa, 34, and Ismail Iskandar Wildan Mustafa, 27. – July 21, 2017.
