BARISAN Nasional representatives on the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) advisory board will not quit until they are formally told to do so.
MCA’s Ng How Doo said Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad should go through the proper channels if he wants the BN members to resign.
The BN board members were appointed by the Agong, on the recommendation of former Federal Territories minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, for a term of two years, beginning 2017.
Khalid previously said all BN representatives on the advisory board are required to relinquish their positions immediately.
The BN members, who are political appointees, will be replaced by MPs.
Khalid said the Federal Territories Act clearly states that DBKL advisory board members must not be political appointees.
Umno’s Ahmad Faisal Abdul Karim said he has no problem resigning, as he understands that the government has changed.
“But, it should be done in the proper manner, as our appointments were sanctioned by the Agong.
“I have no intention of holding on to the position until the expiry of my contract in November 2019.”
He added that he has no qualms if the Kuala Lumpur mayor asked him to quit tomorrow.
“Of course I will resign if the mayor asks. No need to wait for a letter from the Agong, as we are mature enough.”
Khalid has said DBKL will follow procedures to ensure the BN representatives resign, but will not set a time frame.
MIC’s S. Rajah, who has quit the board, said it is only right to respect Khalid’s call for the BN representatives to step down.
“He has requested for (BN) members to step down, so we should follow his advice.
“We are no longer in power, so we should adhere to the request.
“If BN was in power, we would not step down.
“We should allow the others who will be appointed to take over. Let them do the job.”
Rajah was the first BN board member to tender his resignation to Mayor Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz, on May 5.
The others still on the board are Ng, Faisal, Rizalman Mokhtar (Umno), Mustapa Kamal Mohd Yusoff (Umno), Zainal Abidin Mohd Rafique (Umno), A. Samalah (MyPPP) and Wilson Lau Hoi Keong (Gerakan). – July 11, 2018.
