A KUALA Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) advisory board member from Barisan Nasional has resigned, said Khalid Abdul Samad.
The Federal Territories minister said he has received MIC member S. Rajah’s resignation letter.
“He is an MIC leader who has served the party for a long time,” Khalid said in a statement today.
“He sent his resignation letter to the (Kuala Lumpur) mayor (Mhd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz) on May 5, and a copy was sent to the ministry.”
Khalid lauded Rajah’s resignation as the “right and honourable” thing to do.
He previously said all BN representatives on the DBKL advisory board are required to relinquish their positions immediately.
The BN board members, who are political appointees, will be replaced by MPs.
Yesterday, Khalid said DBKL will follow procedures to ensure the eight resign, but will not set a time frame.
“Eventually, we will be forced (to fire them).
“If they still don’t want to resign and don’t understand, then we will follow the proper procedures.”
He said the Federal Territories Act clearly states that DBKL advisory board members must not be political appointees. – July 10, 2018.
