Special court for child sexual crimes has its first trial


THE special court for child sexual crimes had its first proceeding today involving the rape of a 13-year-old girl, which was held in camera to protect testifying witnesses.

The New Straits Times reported that 29-year-old food stall assistant Mohd Haziq Hussain was charged with raping the girl inside a room in Lorong Hajjah Latipah in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur about 8.30pm on Feb 15, 2015.

Two witnesses testified before the court and the trial will continue from Aug 7 to Aug 9 before judge Yong Zarida Sazali.

The court also heard a new case against 43-year-old Chua Kim Yap, who allegedly molested an underaged boy by kissing him and biting his chest at a hotel room on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman about 7.15pm on June 27.

He was denied bail and his case will be up for mention on Aug 8.

The court was officiated by Prime Minister Najib Razak on June 22 as a part of the government’s efforts to combat child sexual crimes in the country. – July 4, 2017.
