Let’s win GE14 first, then decide on PM, says Wan Azizah

PAKATAN Harapan wants to focus on winning the 14th general election before announcing its prime minister candidate, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said today.

She said PH is still discussing the leadership line-up, and will only reveal it when the parties reach a consensus. 

“We have to win first. We are now having discussion first. We want to concentrate on winning,” she said at a press conference at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya. 

PH has not been able to finalise the list of office-bearers. 

Dr Wan Azizah initially promised to reveal the list of officers on June 16. This was meant to be submitted to the Registrar of Societies to complete registration of the new coalition.

“We have to win first before we can talk about who can become the prime minister. Even you can become the prime minister,” she pointed at a reporter who pressed her on the issue. 

Sources hinted that three parties have already agreed on the need to announce a candidate for prime minister heading into the next elections.

Some civil society leaders have also voiced their frustration over PH’s inability to name a PM candidate.

Earlier this week, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad told Channel News Asia that his role has held back PH’s registration. 

Bersatu has teamed up with PKR, DAP and PAS offshoot Amanah in a bid to defeat prime minister Najib Razak’s Barisan Nasional in GE14. – June 22, 2017.

  • The opposition is saying give us victory first before we tell you who will be the prime minister .

    That is like your mechanic saying leave your car at the workshop for a couple days before he can tell you how much it is going to cost to fix your car.

    Whether that is a good idea or not really depends on how much you trust your mechanic ..
