Ku Li, Zahid, KJ among 5 running for Umno president

UMNO has released the list of candidates, including the five vying for the party presidency, in the party elections held tomorrow and on June 30.

The five president hopefuls are  Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, vice-president and interim president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Bandar Tun Razak division member Mohamed Iqbal Maricair and Iskandar Puteri division member Mohd Yusof Musa@Jamaluddin.

Rembau division chief Mohamad Hasan and Information chief Annuar Musa will contest for the deputy president’s post.

Seven candidates will compete for three vice-presidential posts. They are Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Mohamad Khaled Nordin, Sheikh Razali Sheikh Hamad, Mahdzir Khalid, Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, Johari Abdul Ghani and Ahmad Said.

Ismail Sabri, Mohamed Khaled, Mahdzir, Tajuddin and Johari were members of the Umno Supreme Council.

Earlier, the party secretariat received seven nomination forms for the presidency, three nomination forms for the deputy president’s post and nine forms for vice-presidents’ post.

A list uploaded on the Umno website shows 106 candidates, including incumbents and the party’s big guns, names will compete for one of the 25 seats on the Supreme Council. Among them are Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, Noh Omar, Idris Haron, Azalina Othman Said, Razali Ibrahim, Mohd Johari Baharum, Ismail Mohamed Said and Azlan Man. Also contesting are Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, Mohd Puad Zarkashi, Ahmad Maslan, Zambry Abdul Kadir, Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Ahmad Shabery Cheek and Bung Moktar Radin.

Two candidates will contest for the permanent chairman’s post and 14 candidates for the deputy’s post.

There are three candidates for the Wanita chief’s post. They are Siti Zaharah Sulaiman, Noraini Ahmad and Azizah Mohd Dun.

Four are contesting the vice chief’s post, and 81 for a seat on the committee. Two are vying for the permanent chairman’s post and four to be her deputy.

In the Youth division, nine are contesting the chief’s post, including vice Youth chief Khairul Azwan Harun, Supreme Council member Asyraf Wadji Dusuki, Pahang Youth chief Mohd Shahar Abdullah and Sungai Besar division chief Jamal Md Yunos.

Nine candidates will be competing for the post of vice youth chief, 184 candidates contesting for the members of the movement’s committee, two candidates for permanent chairman’s post and three for permanent deputy chairman’s post.

The Puteri movement chief’s post will see a contest between Puteri vice chief Zahida Zarik Khan and Puteri exco Nor Hazreena Mohamad Hashim.

Five candidates will vie for the vice chief’s post, 71 for a committee seat and two for permanent chairman’s post.

The deputy chairman’s post went to Salbiah Saari who was the sole candidate for the post.

Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said all the candidates had been screened.

“The list of central level candidates who have been reviewed by the Department of Insolvency and have met the conditions set for the contests, can be downloaded on www.umno-online.my/callovernment2018.

“For the divisional level list, refer directly to the state Umno liaison body or the respective divisions. Good luck in the contests,” he said in a statement yesterday. – Bernama, June 22, 2018.

  • Frankly, I think Zahid Hamidi will win AND wrongly so.. Zahid Hamidi now claims he did not crawl to Mahathir. HE IS JUST SO WRONG FOR THE JOB..Fact is, its PERFECTLY MAKE SENSE FOR THE LEADER OF UMNO BARU TO CRAWL BACK TO MAHATHIR. They should - he created them, he kicked them out, crawling back to their godfather is perfectly needed for UMNO to turn around..
