Absorb Federal Territories Ministry into PM's Dept, says Teresa Kok

IT is appropriate for the Prime Minister’s Department to absorb back the administration of the Federal Territories Ministry, said Seputeh MP Teresa Kok.

Kok said the proposal could possibly smoothen the administration and management of the functions of local authorities, especially the Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

“I myself am not sure whether a minister will be appointed, or the ministry will be absorbed back into the Prime Minister’s Department.

“Personally, I feel it is appropriate to absorb back because under the administration of the previous government, many of the decisions made by the ministry contradicted the local authorities’ development plan.

“For example, several projects that were developed did not follow the DBKL Kuala Lumpur Structural Plan 2020, but the construction was still carried out because it had received approval from the ministry,” she said.

Teresa said the local authorities should be given space to discharge their responsibilities according to the policies and guidelines contained in the plan.

Pakatan Harapan, which formed the government after winning the 14th general election, has yet to appoint a minister for the ministry. – Bernama, June 2, 2018.
