Zahid calls Pakatan 'tempe' for vacillating stance

AHMAD Zahid Hamidi has taken the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government to task over its inconsistent statements, likening the new administration to the soybean delicacy “tempe”.

Umno online quoted Zahid, who has taken over the role of party president, as saying that PH has not fulfilled its election promises.

“We see for example, when they were declared winners, they said the fuel price will go down but in reality it has not gone down,” Zahid was quoted as saying by Umno Online.

“They also declared that the goods and services tax (GST) will be abolished, but the prices of goods have not dropped even though GST is soon to be zero-rated. There are 90 items that have risen in price.

“They say one thing in the morning and another in the afternoon. Like tempe… it is peanut in the morning, by the afternoon it has become tempe and tomorrow it will grow mouldy,” he told the party’s information chiefs during a breaking of fast event on Sunday.

The former deputy prime minister said PH’s promise to waive PTPTN loan repayment for those earning RM4,000 and below will prevent other students from receiving the loan.

Zahid also disputed the government’s statement that the country’s national debt is at RM1 trillion, insisting that it is only RM686.8 billion.

The Umno vice-president then said the new government had already flip-flopped on the state of the economy, saying that the economy was in shambles before the 14th general election but it had suddenly become strong.

“But now they are singing a different tune and say the economy is strong” he said. – May 28, 2018.

  • Actually Zahid is more like tempe. Does he expect overnight changes when BN has driven Malaysia to the dirt for so many years? No, it's going to take a long time to rid ourselves of the plague that UMNO, MCA, MIC, and friends have left us with.

  • We see no remorse for what BN has done. But then what do you expect from thieves and addicts they will bite you if you don't put them away.

  • Not to worry too much, En. Zahid Hamidi. I'll be among the first to vote PH out of office come GE15 in 2023 if they fail to fullfil the people's high aspirations for a better Malaysia. Let's give PH some time to get really organised within their first 100 days - after all they are the new kids on the block, having tasted federal power for the very first time, and need to overcome the usual hiccups and teething problems. Then we will all be able to see how well the new brooms clean?..
