PRIME Minister Anwar Ibrahim has urged government servants to speed up the implementation of reforms within the civil service, The Star reports.

Speaking at the Prime Minister’s Department monthly assembly in Putrajaya this morning, Anwar expressed dissatisfaction at the pace of progress, highlighting several areas where reforms have not reached satisfactory levels.

He pointed out issues such as negligence and sluggishness among officials, as well as deficiencies in service delivery standards.

Anwar also called for improvements in the merging of several departments and agencies and for the overlap of positions to be addressed.

“The administration that I helm demands good governance, a strong economy, and the wellbeing of the people. This must be delivered,” he said.

Anwar emphasised the need for better speed and efficiency in service delivery to meet public expectations.

“How fast we answer public queries and correspondence is important. We must constantly find ways to provide satisfactory service to the people.”

Anwar said he would be discussing measures to raise performance with the chief secretary to the government and the Public Service director-general.

“We have a lot to do, especially in improving performance. This is why it is important that all civil servants give their cooperation to the new KSN (chief secretary to the government).”

Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar was appointed as the new chief secretary on August 7, replacing Mohd Zuki Ali, who retired on August 10. – September 2, 2024.
