THE 5km Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) underground tunnel on November 29 was set to reduce traffic congestion towards the city by 30%, Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said.

He said the TRX tunnel, which leads directly to Jalan Tun Razak, and the SMART tunnel would form a loop and provide easy access to the TRX integrated development.

“Vehicles heading to TRX will not add to the current volume of traffic on the surrounding roads.

“They can drive through the tunnel and directly enter the TRX underground parking,” he told reporters after surveying infrastructure works around TRX today.

Also present were Kuala Lumpur Mayor Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh and TRX City Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Azmar Talib.

The two-level TRX tunnel was constructed by Gadang Engineering (M) Bhd and WCT Bhd.

The tunnel has been installed with Waze Beacon to ensure uninterrupted navigation for the safety of motorists.

Nanta said the TRX tunnel network would connect to 12 major highways and roads, including Jalan Sultan Ismail, Maju Expressway and Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway.

“The TRX development will provide a significant boost to the surrounding local economy,” he said.
