THE final of the inaugural Maybank Championship at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club was temporarily suspended due to inclement weather during play-offs to decide the winner.

Top spot contenders – five-time Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour winner Celine Boutier of France and Thailand’s youngster Atthaya Thitikul – were at the 18th hole when the downpour spoiled the party.

Earlier, Celine fired eight birdies on the fourth-day for 21 under 267, while Atthaya carded five birdies and a bogey.

They were forced to decide the winner through another play-off after both carded an even-five in the first play-off.

Overnight leader and American young sensation Rose Zhang carded four birdies and three bogeys to be tied third with the leader of first two-round Jasmine Suwannapura of Thailand, for an overall 19 under 269.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong graced the US$3 million (RM14.34 million) event and was set to present prizes for the winners. – Bernama, October 29, 2023.
