THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission will begin interviewing witnesses and individuals connected to its investigation into Felda Global Venture Holdings Bhd (FGV) after its raid and seizure of documents yesterday.

MACC said it is currently processing the seized documents and collecting more evidence related to the probe.

“MACC officers searched the FGV head office yesterday and have taken documents related to the investigations,” said its deputy commissioner for operations, Azam Baki, in a statement today.

“We hope that the concerned parties will give us the time and space for the investigators to do their job and not speculate about the case,” said Azam.

The FGV saga began when the board forced CEO Zakaria Arshad and CFO Ahmad Tifli Mohd Talha to go on leave indefinitely on June 6.

FGV chairman Isa Samad said the duo and two others were told to go on leave so that an internal audit could begin on dealings between FGV subsidiary Delima Oil Products and an Afghan company, Safitex.

Isa said a PwC investigation had found elements of corruption in certain deals.

Following the revelation, Zakaria went to the MACC head office in Putrajaya on June 7 for a four-hour interview.  He brought along a bundle of files.

On the same day, as Zakaria was being interviewed at the MACC office, the Prime Minister’s Department announced that former minister Idris Jala would be appointed to resolve the problems in FGV. – June 9, 2017.
