MACC seizes papers at FGV office

MALAYSIAN Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers turned up at the Felda Global Ventures (FGV) headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today to seize documents following the boardroom tussle at the plantation giant.

The development comes after the anti-graft agency yesterday questioned FGV chief executive Zakaria Arshad for four hours on business dealings between Afghan company Safitex and FGV subsidiary Delima Oil Products Sdn Bhd.

Zakaria had alleged financial mismanagement and other improprieties related to the Afghan deal.

MACC said yesterday it is looking into claims of graft and possible abuse of power involving several officials at the world’s biggest plantation company.

The CEO spent almost four hours at the MACC headquarters. He, however, did not divulge details of his interview when asked by reporters subsequently.

The FGV saga began on Tuesday when the FGV board, led by chairman Isa Samad, told Zakaria and his chief financial officer Ahmad Tifli Mohd Talha to on leave pending an internal probe into business dealings between Safitex and Delima Oil Products.

Following Zakaria’s visit to MACC, the Prime Minister’s Office announced last night the appointment of Pemandu Associates Sdn Bhd CEO Idris Jala to check the facts and recommend solutions to the suspension of the chief executive and two other senior officials in FGV. – June 8, 2017.
