Air quality in Batu Pahat, Larkin slides to unhealthy levels

BATU Pahat and Larkin in Johor are the only two places in the country with the unhealthy air quality as of 10am today, according to the Environment Department’s Air Pollutant Index.

The API stood at 155 for Batu Pahat and 124 for Larkin.

Children, the elderly, and people with respiratory or heart conditions are the most adversely affected when the air quality drops to an unhealthy level.

An API reading of 0-50 is considered good, 51-100 (moderate), 101-200 (unhealthy), 201-300 (very unhealthy) and 300 and above (hazardous).

Meanwhile, air quality in Alor Gajah and Bukit Rambai in Malacca are hovering just below the unhealthy category.

Alor Gajah logged a moderate reading of 96 and Bukit Rambai, 90.

Johor and Malacca are the states most affected by the transboundary smog.

Elsewhere, 47 areas are experiencing moderate air quality. – October 12, 2023.
