THE Home Ministry and police were studying appropriate regulatory methods to manage the affairs of retired and former policemen, said Deputy Home Minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.
Shamsul said this was to ensure the well-being of the group, which comprised 42,278 people as of the end of 2022, in addition to appreciating their contributions and service.
“Based on projections of the number of senior and lower-ranking police officers in 2023, it is estimated 3,990 policemen will retire, bringing the number of police pensioners to 46,268 by the end of 2023.
“This is a large number to manage, and requires ... an orderly regulatory method,” he said after a meeting with the Muar branch of the Johor Retired Police Officers Association today.
Shamsul said as Tabung Amanah Warisan Polis (TAWP) chairman, he saw a need to review the types of aid provided under the fund.
He said the updated regulations would take into account socio-economic changes in the country.
TAWP provides assistance for retired police officers and their dependents.
It covers death benefits and mobility, medical, prosthetic, education and natural disaster aid. – Bernama, September 4, 2023.
