THE police force is 134,978 strong as of February 28, the Dewan Negara sitting was told today.

Deputy Home Minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah however said this number is insufficient, taking into account the country’s rapid development and population growth.

“PDRM is currently studying the overall optimisation of staffing for Bukit Aman police headquarters, contingent police headquarters, district police headquarters and police stations.

“Through the study, the ideal staffing number for all levels is being identified to ensure there is no issue of lack of personnel that can interfere with operational effectiveness,” he said at the wind-up of the Supply Bill 2023 debate on behalf of the Home Ministry.

Shamsul said based on the study, the force needs 4,940 more members. – Bernama, April 4, 2023.
