TWO owners of Crackhouse Comedy Club today withdrew their application to challenge the Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) action in revoking their business licence and permanently banning the duo from opening any business in the city.
Lawyer M. Pravin, representing Mohamad Rizal Johan Van Geyzel and Shankar R. Santhiram, informed High Court judge Amarjeet Singh his clients do not intend to proceed with the judicial review bid as DBKL only revoked the licence of the comedy club rather than put the duo on a blacklist to prevent them from registering their businesses in Kuala Lumpur.
“DBKL in its affidavit-in-reply confirmed they (Rizal, Shankar) have never been blacklisted from registering their business in Kuala Lumpur.
“Therefore, we withdraw this judicial review application without any cost,” he said at today’s proceedings set for the hearing of the judicial review bid, which was attended by respondents, DBKL counsel Khalisa Badrul Amini and former Kuala Lumpur mayor Mahadi Che Ngah.
Amarjeet allowed Rizal and Shankar to withdraw the judicial review bid without any cost.
On May 23, the High Court granted leave to the duo to initiate judicial review proceedings against DBKL.
Rizal and Shankar filed the judicial review application on November 24, seeking a declaration that DBKL’s decision to revoke their business licence and ban them from registering any business in Kuala Lumpur for life is unconstitutional. – Bernama, August 23, 2023.
