THE bombs found under lawyer and Orang Asli activist Siti Kasim’s car were not switched on to go off, Kosmo! reported Kuala Lumpur police chief Mohd Shuhaily Zain as saying.
He said the two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were made by someone with bomb-making knowledge.
Shuhaily said there was a mechanism to set off the bombs, but it was not live.
“We found the bombs were switched off; the devices had to be detonated manually with a button on them. Other materials found in the bombs included cloth, diesel, wires, batteries, and fireworks.
“I believe the person behind this has knowledge of building IEDs and we hope speculation on this case will stop here,” he told a press conference.
On July 21, Siti posted on social media that an object resembling a homemade bomb was strapped to her car.
She said via Facebook Live that the device was discovered when she sent her vehicle for service in Bangsar.
A bomb disposal unit managed to remove the devices.
Brickfields police chief Amihizam Abdul Shukor confirmed the device found under Siti’s car was a bomb, while Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the devices were an attempt on the lawyer’s life.
“The bomb (placed under Siti’s car) is a serious crime and such a threat is akin to attempted murder,” Razarudin said.
Shuhaily said police have interviewed 13 people in the investigation.
“We have checked all CCTV recordings of the activist’s (Siti Kasim) movement and are looking for more leads,” he said. – July 31, 2023.
