A SUSPECT, who planted two plastic bottles suspected to be improvised explosive devices (IEDs) under a car belonging to lawyer and activist Siti Kasim, might have learned the technique for making the device via the internet, said top cop Razarudin Husain.

The inspector-general of police said this was based on the interrogation of a suspect involved in the package explosion case outside a restaurant in Pandan Indah, Ampang Jaya, in December last year, who admitted to having learnt online methods of making explosive devices.

“Police are investigating the motive for planting the explosive device (on Siti Kasim’s vehicle), when the material was planted, and the suspects involved in the case,” he told Bernama today.

He said the use of IEDs could be serious and dangerous if left unchecked. Razarudin said police are examining CCTV footage of the scene to find the person who planted the car bomb.

In a statement, city police chief Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said police have called in nine witnesses to assist in investigations.

On July 21, Siti Kasim was told two bottles filled with wire were discovered behind the rear tyre of her car.

The discovery was made by her mechanic at a workshop in Bangsar. – Bernama, July 24, 2023.
