POLICE are taking the letter of criminal intimidation against the Penang police chief seriously, Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said.

He said the Crime Investigation Department (CID), Commercial CID and Narcotics CID are actively tracking down the people involved.

He said the letter received by Penang police chief Khaw Kok Chin recently contained six pieces of “hell banknotes” and a warning.

He said it also told the police to stop aggressive action against the unlicensed moneylending gang in the state.

Acryl Sani said Khaw received the letter on June 1 via the post.

“A police report has been lodged regarding the letter addressed to the Penang police chief and Penang police contingent headquarters. Police are now actively tracking down the people believed to be involved,” he said.

“The investigation is being conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department, North East district police headquarters under section 507 of the penal code for criminal intimidation through an anonymous communication.

“The police will not compromise and will take tough action against any party that tries to threaten their officers in carrying out their duties to combat illegal activities and crime in this country.”

Last Saturday, Khaw described the threats he received from suspected moneylending syndicate as normal.

He said he would not submit to threats by any illegal syndicate against him. – Bernama, June 5, 2023.
