DAP demands proof of Guan Eng’s hand in Albukhary Foundation issue

BERSATU Youth should prove accusations made by Muhyiddin Yassin that Lim Guan Eng revoked the tax exemption for Albukhary Foundation as finance minister in the first Pakatan Harapan administration, DAP Youth chief Kelvin Yii said.

He said Bersatu’s Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal should answer whether Lim issued a specific order to revoke Albukhary Foundation’s tax-exempt status.

“That is the main question, which until now Muhyiddin Yassin cannot prove or try to furnish evidence for, even when given ample time and opportunity to prove otherwise,” Yii said in a statement today.

Yii said if Bersatu Youth cannot prove the allegations, then the wing is morally bankrupt in trying to defend a clear lie and slander.

Wan Fayhsal yesterday told Lim the latter should not be dramatic over Bersatu Youth’s police report against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

The Bersatu Youth chief said he hopes Lim will obey the law in accusing others.

“Lim went to the police station prepared with a ‘Muhyiddin slanders’ (Muhyiddin fitnah) banner when lodging his police report (against Muhyiddin).

“This is all DAP propaganda because Lim was affected by what I said,” Wan Fayhsal said in a Facebook post last night.

He was responding to a statement by the former finance minister.

Lim had accused Wan Fayhsal of committing a criminal offence in lodging a “false police report” against the prime minister and himself over Albukhary Foundation’s tax-exempt status. Lim also said the Bersatu Youth chief had disrespected parliament by bringing police into parliamentary ongoings.

“Lodging a false report is a criminal offence under section 182 of the penal code,” Lim, who is also Bagan MP, said.

Wan Fayhsal said he is certain in his knowledge about the issue, and that Bersatu’s police report was clear and easy to understand.

Yii said Bersatu Youth and Wan Fayhsal have displayed their ignorance and shallow knowledge of parliamentary procedures by trying to bring police into a matter raised in the august house.

“If he claims the prime minister has confused and misled the Dewan Rakyat, then they (Bersatu Youth) should table a motion in parliament rather than contravene the supremacy and independence of parliament,” he said. – March 26, 2023.
