MALAYSIAN youth are mature enough to make the right choice in the upcoming general election to vote out political parties involved in corruption as well as reject grand kleptocracy, DAP youth leader Dr Kelvin Yii said.

“The young people of Malaysia will vote for the good of Malaysia, and this includes rejecting political parties whose leaders are proven to be involved in grand corruption and abuse of power, on top of forcing an early election during monsoon season just to save thieves involved in grand kleptocracy,” the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Youth chief said in a statement today.

“Youth are looking for good policies to give them economic and environmental security, equitable education, and more importantly policies to prepare them for jobs of the future.”

Yii was responding to Umno Supreme Council member Isham Jalil who said he was confident that young voters will reject PH and Perikatan Nasional (PN) at the coming general election.

He claimed that youth had a poor view of PH for not delivering on promises in their 2018 manifesto, and were also unlikely to vote for PN as the coalition is made up of “party hoppers”.

Yii, who is the incumbent MP for Bandar Kuching, took a swipe at Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN), claiming they are the reason for many of the systemic and institutional problems in our country.

He said it was Umno and BN who empowered and endorsed “frogs into positions of power” during the Sheraton Move.

Yii also said that Umno, BN constantly harped on PH’s unfulfilled promises in their 22-month span, but claimed they themselves have broken and failed in so many of their promises over the past 60 years.

“In fact even in 22 months, PH put in place many important institutional reforms and good governance policies which were recognised internationally including a massive improvement in our Corruption Perception Index, Freedom of Media Index, Democratic Index and many more.

“That would have set the foundation for a stronger and cleaner Malaysia, which is important to attract investments and induce investors confidence in our governance,” said Yii, who is also DAP Socialist Youth national chief.

If a full-five year term was given to PH to govern the country, Yii said they could have corrected the mismanagement caused by BN and set the country on the right direction. – October 18, 2022.
