FORMER MCA president Lee San Choon died this morning. He was 88.

The former Seremban lawmaker was MCA’s fourth president and served from 1975 to 1983.

In confirming the news in a tweet, MCA president Dr Wee Ka Siong said Lee was a source of motivation and inspiration to party members.

“His fighting spirit has always been a source of motivation and inspiration to many of our leaders today, including myself. Personally, I am most inspired by his strong leadership skills, and his passion for protecting the interest of all racial groups and building the nation.

“My heartfelt condolences to the family members of the late Lee San Choon. May his soul rest in peace. Tan Sri, you will be deeply missed and remembered forever,” he said in a series of tweets.

Lee, who was born in Pekan, Pahang, was the party’s youngest MP when he was elected as Kluang Utara lawmaker in Johor in 1959.

He led MCA in three general election elections and held various ministerial posts in the cabinet from 1969 to 1983, such as labour and manpower, works and public utilities, as well as transport. – March 3, 2023.
