SEVERAL police reports have been lodged against an independent Muslim preacher for insulting and making offensive statements against Hindu beliefs despite his apology, the Hindu Agamam Ani Malaysia Association said.

Its chairperson Arun Dorasamy confirmed thus far seven police reports have been lodged against Wadi Annuar Ayub, after the preacher said that Hindus who participated in a Thaipusam procession were “worshipping satan” (sembah syaitan) in a recently published sermon video.

“Several reports have been made in Sentul, Jelapang (Perak), Sungai Petani (Kedah) and Iskandar Puteri (Johor) against the preacher for insulting Hinduism,” Arun told The Malaysian Insight.

“Such comments insulting the faith and belief of other religions warrant an investigation,” he added.

In a sermon at a mosque in Malacca, Wadi Annuar was commenting on a viral clip showing a Thaipusam procession that involved Malays.

Based on the clip, he warned Muslims not to participate in the religious events of other faiths, and then went on to say that those who took part in the Thaipusam procession were worshipping satan.

His sermon video has since gone viral.

Today, the preacher, who has more than 1 million followers on Facebook, had issued an apology, saying that he had made a mistake by using the term “worshiping satan”.

“I would like to apologise to the entire Hindu community for the statement.

“I would like to clarify that I had no intention of insulting followers of other faiths,” he said in a statement.

Arun said more reports will be made against the preacher, claiming that he had insulted the Hindu faith as well as Lord Murugan, whom the chariot procession is held for in conjunction with Thaipusam celebrations.

“The number of reports to be made shows that the people, especially Hindus are not ready to accept Wadi Annuar’s apology.

“The trend of saying something insulting and then asking for forgiveness is becoming common now. We cannot accept his apology as he had insulted our faith and beliefs,” Arun added.

Arun said not only Hindus but all religions including Islam should be respected.

Besides Arun’s Hindu Agamam Ani group members, several others also have lodged a police report against Wadi Annuar. –  February 12, 2023.
