THE Registrar of Societies must investigate the legitimacy of Larry Sng as Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president as the party’s annual conference had decided that Zuraida Kamaruddin would assume the position, a party leader said today.

Haniza Mohamed Talha, who was suspended as party vice-president, said Sng had failed to adhere to an agreement and mandate that was decided by PBM members in their annual general conference in October to hand over the post of party president to Zuraida.

She added that Sng’s decision to retain his presidency while suspending other leaders aligned to Zuraida had caused confusion and misdirection in the party.

“The failure of Datuk Larry Sng in administering and managing the party is also clearly evident when he recklessly used his position for his own benefit without thinking about the impact on PBM members across the country.

“Before GE15, he had used the letter of appointment of candidates to threaten the PBM leadership so that we obeyed his wishes.

“After GE15 ended, he used PBM to establish cooperation with other parties without first discussing with any party leader or member.

“His immaturity was also shown to the public through a Facebook post, when he was ‘sulky’ because his name was not listed in the cabinet line-up announced by the prime minister recently,” the Lembah Jaya assemblyman said.

She claimed that Sng was using PBM as a stepping stone to gain influence and positions at the national level.

PBM stood in the Ampang, Hulu Selangor, Kapar, Labuan and Julau parliamentary constituencies in the recent general election. Only Sng managed to secure victory in Julau.

Meanwhile, PBM is to decide today on the fate of Zuraida and 10 other supreme council members who were suspended in October.

Show cause letters had been sent to all 11 last Monday, mentioning the reasons behind their suspension with an instruction to submit a response within a week.

It is believed that they had not responded to the letters.

Yesterday, Zuraida criticised Sng for being “immature and arrogant” in managing the party.

The membership of 13 PBM supreme council members was suspended on October 28 for alleged indiscipline. However, on December 18, Sng announced that he had lifted the suspension on two of them – Chua Lian Chye and Muniraa Abu Bakar – and reinstated them. – December 26, 2022.
