PARTI Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) today said the presidential tussle between Zuraida Kamaruddin and Larry Sng has been resolved following a meeting this morning.

The party said in a short statement that Sng will be signing the party’s candidates’ “surat watikah” (appointment letters) to contest in the coming general election.

This power to sign and issue these letters is always in the hand of the president.

The statement also said the party leadership has agreed to remain united in solving the internal trouble and will focus on facing the November 19 polls.

“All matters pertaining to the party’s administration will be discussed and settled after GE15,” it said, referring to the 15th general election.

This means that the party has reverted to its original position with Sng as the president and Zuraida as the president-designate.

Earlier, there had been clashes in the party with both Zuraida and Sng claiming to be the party’s rightful president.

Sng had insisted he was the legitimate president and suspended the party’s secretary-general and information chief with immediate effect.

He also suspended the membership of Zuraida and 12 supreme council members.

Zuraida’s supporters – who are in the party leadership – however said according to the party constitution, Zuraida was the legitimate president.

They said her appointment was agreed upon at the party’s annual general meeting on October 1 and that minutes of the meeting were sent to the Registrar of Societies.

It was also decided in the early days of the party that Sng would yield the presidency to Zuraida, they added.

The dispute, if not solved, could have left Zuraida – the incumbent Ampang MP – party-less as the nomination day for the general election has been set for November 5.

Zuraida and her supporters had left Bersatu to join PBM. They were previously in PKR and had defected from the party during the Sheraton Move in February 2020. – November 2, 2022.
