BARISAN Nasional will solve the Selangor water crisis if it wins back the state in the 14th general election, said Prime Minister Najib Razak today.

Najib identified five weaknesses of the state government, one of which was the poor management of water in Selangor.

“There are five weaknesses of the state government in Selangor. Firstly, it is the problem of water, there is a shortage of water. This is because the Selangor government has failed to manage water,” Najib said at his officiating speech of the Barisan Nasional machinery in Hulu Selangor.

Water disruptions in the Klang Valley are expected to go on until 2019 due to pipe replacement works by Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas).

Yesterday’s water disruption was due to scheduled repair works on critical equipment at Phase 3 Sg Selangor Water Treatment Plant which affected areas such as Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Gombak, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Langat.

Najib also said there are a multitude of problems with water supply in Selangor, which he promised that Barisan Nasional will solve if it wins back the state.

“The quality of water is getting worse, low water pressure, bills that are all over the place and poor customer service.

“How do we solve this problem? We (BN) must change and take over Selangor. We promise to solve the water crisis when Barisan Nasional takes over.

Najib said another problem that the state government has not solved in Selangor is housing.

“The prices of houses are getting higher, there are slow approvals for houses, and the lack of low-cost houses because of high taxes in Selangor.

“Developers had told me the houses in Selangor are expensive because of its taxes.

“Thirdly, the problem is new taxes that make the people suffer, assessment rates, rubbish taxes.

A group of housing developers in Selangor had said that the state government’s move to impose charges for the changing of properties’ status from Bumiputera to non-Bumiputera has forced them to sell units at higher prices, burdening the people.

Najib added that other problems that the Selangor government had failed to solve include waste management and proper development of the state.

“There are more and more rubbish in the state, waste disposal is not enough. Lastly is development, the river is dirty, there are traffic jams in Selangor everywhere and Selangor is the champion of dengue in Malaysia,” he said. – March 7, 2018.
