A TRAM service system will be introduced in Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, Kajang and Bangi.

Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) chief executive officer Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah said SPAD would initiate the Request For Proposal (RFP) for the project and it would be conducted between three to six months.

“Once approved, the project will take about three years to be built in phases and we will make sure it integrates with other transport services.

“One of the reasons Putrajaya and Bangi were selected was because of their wide roads, which can fit the trams,” he told reporters after presenting SPAD Annual Review 2017 Report in Kuala Lumpur today.

He said the tram service would be integrated with the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) 3, Express Rail Link (ERL) and High Speed Rail (HSR), and also connected to Putrajaya Sentral.

“The (tram) system feasible study was fully done by SPAD last year by referring to the technology from Taiwan, China and Europe,” he said.

Azharuddin said the cost of the tram system would be 30% cheaper than the monorail system.

Once operational, he said the tram service would provide a cleaner, greener and more efficient transport solution in the administrative capital and the nation’s information and communication technology and technological hub. – Bernama, March 6, 2018.
