Zahid confirms offering Anifah cabinet post

BARISAN Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has confirmed that he made an offer to Kimanis MP Anifah Aman to become foreign minister if Barisan Nasional (BN) wins the general election this weekend, The Edge Markets reported.

This comes after Anifah revealed yesterday that Zahid had offered him the position, if Anifah withdrew from the election.

Anifah was foreign minister from April 2009 to May 2018 during the Najib Razak administration. Zahid was the deputy prime minister at the time.

“We must form a government. He is very suitable to be reappointed as foreign minister,” Zahid was quoted as saying by the news portal in Bagan Datuk yesterday.

“He was so for nine years, and served very well throughout his tenure. We were together in the cabinet.

“He deserves to be appointed as a senator and subsequently appointed as foreign minister. I think he is worthy, he has value,” he added.

Anifah yesterday alleged that Zahid had asked him to step aside and support the proposed candidate.

“He will make me a senator and then foreign minister, but I said that is not what I want.

“What I want is for everything enshrined under the Federal Constitution (for Sabah) as well as the Malaysia Agreement 1963 to be fulfilled,” he said at a Pakatan Harapan (PH) ceramah.

Anifah said he will not stand this time round and has thrown his support behind Pakatan Harapan.

He said he is also supporting Anwar to become prime minister, because he believes Anwar can revive the economy. – November 14, 2022.

    What's the relation between must form a government and Anifah suitability? None what so ever right !!

    Must form a government is obvious as he wants to be PM cause only the PM has the outright to appoints anyone to be in his cabinet lineup. I guess you intend to pressure the PM from umno to follow your instructions, just like you pressure him to have the GE in November knowing very well its a wet season. Must form the gomen so that you can pressure the court to end up with a not guilty verdict for all your cases. Caught playing dirty politics. Do you really think he is the kind of person to lead us & this country???

  • The issue here is not so much Anifah being suited for the job or not. It is about Zahid going around offering cabinet posts like he will be PM. Yet BN goes around denying that he will be PM or controlling the PM. He is already doing so right now and admits it.
