PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang must respond to Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown’s allegation that his party had received a RM90 million bribe from Umno, Lim Guan Eng said today.

This comes after Hadi accused non-Muslims and non-Bumiputera of being the root cause of corruption in the country.

“In the interests of accountability and transparency, Abdul Hadi should explain Clare’s disclosures,” Lim said in a statement today.

Hadi sued Rewcastle-Brown in London over a 2016 article alleging former prime minister Najib Razak had given RM90 million to PAS leaders to ensure their support in the 2018 general election.

However, the suit ended in an out-of-court settlement that saw Hadi paying Rewcastle-Brown RM1.4 million instead.

Lim said if Hadi refuses to explain why he paid Rewcastle-Brown the RM1.4 million after withdrawing the suit against her, Malaysian Anti-Corruption (MACC) reports should be lodged against him. – September 7, 2022.
