BERSATU has given the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) seven days to disclose investigation details of a member’s complaint that she was offered a bribe to attend a media event to attack its leadership.

Bersatu lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla said the party has already given a legal notice demanding information on the case.

“If they fail to give the details and tell us if they carried out the investigation or not, then the complainant as well as Bersatu by extension will have a right to file a civil action on misfeasance in public office,” he said in a press conference at the Bersatu headquarters in Petaling Jaya today.

Haniff was referring to Perlis Srikandi chief Baridah Che Nayan, who lodged a report with MACC on February 4 over an attempt to bribe her to attack the Bersatu leadership at a press conference.

Haniff claimed that MACC had arrested the suspect, who was also a former Bersatu Srikandi leader, the next day.

“She is one of the individuals who attended yesterday’s protest together with other former Bersatu members.

“How can a suspect who was arrested on February 5 be able to join the protest,” he said, referring to a protest held by current and former Bersatu members at the Home Ministry in Putrajaya yesterday.

According to media reports, yesterday’s protest was held to demand authorities to take action against the party for violating the party’s constitution,

“Until today, there is no update from MACC on the case,” he said, adding that MACC has until 5pm on March 2 to respond.

Bersatu deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir, who was present at the press conference, said yesterday’s protest was driven by dedak (bribe) from Umno.

“And we have one proof today, this is not our allegation, this case was actually conducted by MACC themselves, MACC officers conducted the raid, did the actual arrest.

“It’s not hearsay or us making false allegation, this is something that involves a government agency. This is why we are demanding MACC to come out with the report,” he said.

On PH seat negotiations, Mukhriz said all PH component parties have signed a document to conclude seat negotiations in Kedah.

“It has been submitted to the Pakatan Harapan presidential council several days ago where it was accepted and endorsed.

“I think Dr Mahathir also alluded that Perlis, Johor, Negeri Sembilan have also concluded seat negotiations.

“We are on standby to finalise and conclude state seat negotiations at the federal level for Perak, Malacca, Terengganu, Kelantan, Pahang and Selangor,” he said. – February 23, 2018.
