The woman who allegedly insulted Islam when she disrobed at a recent open mic show has been detained by the police in Taman Jaya, Jalan Gasing around 10pm last night.

In a statement made today, Royal Malaysia Police secretary Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin revealed that the detainee has been remanded for 3 days.

“The suspect is currently being held at the Brickfields IPD for now and investigations are still ongoing,” she said.

In a 54-second-long video uploaded to social media, the woman claimed she had memorised most parts of the Quran, before removing her attire to reveal a blouse and mini skirt.

She was accused of committing the crime during a show at the Crackhouse Comedy Club in Taman Tun Dr Ismail

The club was ordered to close by DBKL today.

Club co-founder Rizal Van Geysel said that DBKL’s decision was “flabbergasting” and showed that it didn’t understand how stand-up comedy worked.

Deputy Federal Territories Minister Jalaluddin Alias said the decision to shutter the club sent a message that the ministry and City Hall would not tolerate behaviour disrespecting the sensitivities of religion, race, or sovereignty.

It was also reported that the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) had conducted a preliminary investigation to be carried out by its enforcement division.

Under Section 7 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Federal Territories) Act 1997, insulting or causing contempt against Islam is an offence and those found guilty can be fined up to RM3,000 or imprisoned up to 2 years, or both, if convicted. - July 10, 2022
