DOMESTIC postal voters can apply for postal voting starting today, said Election Commission chairman Mohd Hashim Abdullah.

In a statement today, he said these voters could apply for postal voting after their employers had given confirmation that they must be on duty on polling day.

He said election staff, police and army personnel who could not go for early voting, as well as members of the media, could apply using Form 1A.

Members of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Prisons Department and Fire and Rescue Department, staff of government hospitals and clinics, police volunteers, and Civil Defence Force, Immigration Department and National Disaster Management Agency personnel, as well as National Registration Department staff stationed at urban transformation centres, can apply using Form 1C.

“The EC has uploaded Forms 1A and 1C on the website www.spr.gov.my. The guidelines for filling up the forms are also there,” said Hashim.

He said the completed Form 1A must be submitted to the office of the returning officer at each polling division, while Form 1C must be sent to the Postal Voting Management Unit at the EC headquarters in Putrajaya, either by post, via e-mail to [email protected] or by fax to 03-8881-0424/0399/0394/0386/0369.

He said applications for those in the first category (Form 1A) would be closed on nomination day, while for the second category (Form 1C), it would be five days before nomination day.

“Each application will be processed, and the applicant will be informed whether it’s approved,” he said, adding that members of the public could contact the EC at 03-8881-0081 or email to [email protected] for more information. – Bernama, February 19, 2018.
