PKR polls’ low turnout not due to boycott, says Fahmi

PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil says the number of members who voted in the party polls increased to 147,000 this year from 140,000 in 2018. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, May 29, 2022.

ALTHOUGH the overall voter turnout for the PKR polls is only 13.5%, the number of members who voted increased from 140,000 in 2018 to 147,000 this year, said party communications director Fahmi Fadzil.

The Lembah Pantai MP denied that the low turnout is due to a boycott by members who are unhappy with Pakatan Harapan’s performance.

“It should not be viewed (solely) on the average number of people who cast their ballots.

“Other factors have also been identified, including logistics and technical factors like internet reach. All these will be improved from time to time.”

However, he added, some divisions enjoyed a high voter turnout – like in Pensiangan (45%).

The PKR elections ended yesterday, after fresh re-polls were held in 12 divisions in several states, including Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor and Sabah.

Unofficial results will be displayed on the PKR Election 2022 portal from today.

PKR election committee chairman Zaliha Mustafa said the results will be subject to the outcome of complaints and objections received by the committee.

“The official results will be announced at the PKR Congress on June 25 and 26.” – Bernama, May 29, 2022.
